An Open Letter from Michael Moore
Friday, September 2nd, 2005
Dear Mr. Bush:
Any idea where all our helicopters are? It's Day 5 of Hurricane Katrina and thousands remain stranded in New Orleans and need to be airlifted. Where on earth could you have misplaced all our military choppers? Do you need help finding them? I once lost my car in a Sears parking lot. Man, was that a drag.
Also, any idea where all our national guard soldiers are? We could really use them right now for the type of thing they signed up to do like helping with national disasters. How come they weren't there to begin with?
Last Thursday I was in south Florida and sat outside while the eye of Hurricane Katrina passed over my head. It was only a Category 1 then but it was pretty nasty. Eleven people died and, as of today, there were still homes without power. That night the weatherman said this storm was on its way to New Orleans. That was Thursday! Did anybody tell you? I know you didn't want to interrupt your vacation and I know how you don't like to get bad news. Plus, you had fundraisers to go to and mothers of dead soldiers to ignore and smear. You sure showed her!
I especially like how, the day after the hurricane, instead of flying to Louisiana, you flew to San Diego to party with your business peeps. Don't let people criticize you for this -- after all, the hurricane was over and what the heck could you do, put your finger in the dike?
And don't listen to those who, in the coming days, will reveal how you specifically reduced the Army Corps of Engineers' budget for New Orleans this summer for the third year in a row. You just tell them that even if you hadn't cut the money to fix those levees, there weren't going to be any Army engineers to fix them anyway because you had a much more important construction job for them -- BUILDING DEMOCRACY IN IRAQ!
On Day 3, when you finally left your vacation home, I have to say I was moved by how you had your Air Force One pilot descend from the clouds as you flew over New Orleans so you could catch a quick look of the disaster. Hey, I know you couldn't stop and grab a bullhorn and stand on some rubble and act like a commander in chief. Been there done that.
There will be those who will try to politicize this tragedy and try to use it against you. Just have your people keep pointing that out. Respond to nothing. Even those pesky scientists who predicted this would happen because the water in the Gulf of Mexico is getting hotter and hotter making a storm like this inevitable. Ignore them and all their global warming Chicken Littles. There is nothing unusual about a hurricane that was so wide it would be like having one F-4 tornado that stretched from New York to Cleveland.
No, Mr. Bush, you just stay the course. It's not your fault that 30 percent of New Orleans lives in poverty or that tens of thousands had no transportation to get out of town. C'mon, they're black! I mean, it's not like this happened to Kennebunkport. Can you imagine leaving white people on their roofs for five days? Don't make me laugh! Race has nothing -- NOTHING -- to do with this!
You hang in there, Mr. Bush. Just try to find a few of our Army helicopters and send them there. Pretend the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are near Tikrit.
Yours,
Michael Moore

P.S. That annoying mother, Cindy Sheehan, is no longer at your ranch. She and dozens of other relatives of the Iraqi War dead are now driving across the country, stopping in many cities along the way. Maybe you can catch up with them before they get to DC on September 21st.

Having anything written by Michael Moore posted on this web site makes a mockery of a possible Department of Peace! His comments are ego driven, distasteful and serve only to agitate intelligent, thinking people.

I had great respect for Marianne, she will no longer have my ear after seeing a letter from Michael Moore on her website. I also think her critical views on the government whether it be the war or the response on the hurricane...makes her peace agenda invalid to me. I don't want her kind making any decisions now..her world..Hollywood fantasy comes to mind.

Is this not America? Free speech means freedom to disagree. I think it is time everyone speaks out about our government and the fallacies of our President. I think Peace begins when we talk about the truth, and Marianne does this quite well. Michael Moore is a leader of peace as well. I feel it is a good idea for people to take a Sociology Class to reckon with the truth, and become educated on the sociology of America.
Peace begins when the hungry are fed. What country have we not invaded? I love my country (others too), but fear my government. I read a bumper sticker or magnet that said what I feel; "Compassionate Conservatism Is An Oxymoron, George Bush Is Just a Moron." I personally think Marianne is the perfect person for the Peace Summit. As for Michael Moore, if you were intelligent than you would listen closely to his words and not be agitated in a negative way, and if you are not outraged then you're not paying attention.

Is this America? Do we not have free speech? Who needs to take a history class on WHY we have free speech? Who needs to figure out why you can scream fire in a crowd...and not have your head chopped off? Who needs a lesson on the sociology of America? How about studying what condition the rest of the world is in...and then complain to me about America and her evil government. Just as we separate God from ourselves, we separate government from ourselves. We the people are the government. Peace begins when the hungry are fed?? Is that why so many on welfare and food stamps are doing so well? Lack of war does NOT make for peace. You think calling Bush a moran creates peace...and blaming him for everything that goes wrong in this country...you certainly give him more power than he deserves. You think Michal Moore stands for peace when he has NO real solution to anything except for critisizing the government, while actually twisting facts into propaganda and LIES to meet his truth? In the face of disaster, not like anything this country has ever experienced or gone through...what is YOUR SOLUTION to immediately, and I mean immediately...save the planet?????

You are either with this country or against it right now. WHO was elected in November is WHO won the election - like it or not! At a time when America is nearly evenly divided down political factions, the category 5 hurricane that wiped out much of the gulf coast area offers a fine opportunity to take the low road for people who prefer the blame game over any remotely productive alternative. If America had elected Gore in 2000 or Kerry in 2004, all of this death and destruction could have been avoided! Right? Global warming would have been ended, Katrina would have been the little girl down the street, the Jews would still have their own "ocean front property", Americans would be driving electric cars and nobody would need gas anymore so it would again be 50 cents a gallon! Right? The blame game will go on, it always has. But don’t kid yourself into believing it serves any purpose other than political. The only people who win that game are political ideologues interested in politics and movie making. (Why was Sean Penn seen in New Orleans in a ridiculous sinking boat with his entourage and personal photographer? - do I see a movie in the making?)The same people who undermine the government will undermine relief efforts. The last thing you will ever catch one of them doing is contributing anything of value. Remember, those who accept no responsibility for themselves are always first to point fingers and find fault with others. If you are being blamed, it is usually by someone who accepts no responsibility for themselves, because they usually have nothing else to offer. I whole heartedly would love to see some honest to goodness problem solving suggestions here. I recently heard an interview with Howard Dean; he was doing the usual Bush bashing and when asked how he would have done things differently had he been elected, his answer was "that's not for me to decide, I wasn't elected President". Typical! Criticize the other guy with no accountable answers. The baby-ass whining typical of the Michael Moores of this country are not in the solution they promote the problem. He is not a peacemaker he is a movie maker. Get over the election you're sitting in the past and by doing so you (D Shaw) and your peace loving Michael Moores will see to it that the past is repeated! What will it take for you finger pointing, name calling resentment filled whiners to get off your royal thrones and work with the country instead of against it? The election is over - Kerry didn't win and for that we have God to thank! Now get over it. We dealt with Clinton for 8 years and believe me the levees were in bad shape then and the Taliban was rumbling loud and clear. Michael Moore's only agenda is to promote himself and his propaganda passed off as meaningful documentaries. Marianne promoting Michael Moore as a peace maker discredits her, invalidates all the good she does and makes a mockery of any promotion of the Department of Peace. I fear her next step will be a hyperlink to moveon.org. on this site. The sure fire death to a Department of Peace will be a Michael Moore sighting on Sept. 14th!

These are terribly disruptive, stressful times. Lets keep focus on the Course in Miracles from where Marianne Williamson strives to bring her focus to and from.
Lets take all take a breath. Refocus.

You know, it's cliche but true, it's easy to love the ones you agree with...I love Marianne and I love Michael Moore. I know that God loves George Bush...that's what makes God...um...God...the power to love George. The Department of Peace is needed...how in the world do people connect their support of it to an open letter from ANYONE? But hey...gotta love 'em right?...Michael, we need you, Marianne, we need you, Dept of Peace, we need THAT as well, George....your mother's calling.

Has is occured to anyone that the States where Katrina hit were "red" states? States that voted for Bush and the war. And has anyone thought that the destruction of those states was similar to what this Country has been doing to Iraq?
