Dear Marianne,
I am deeply moved by your profoundly compassionate insights as you fight for change within our political system.
In keeping with your efforts not to be at war ( be in judgment) with our political leadership, I request that, as Founder of the Peace Alliance, you examine and revise the stated objectives of the Dept of Peace. I believe it is critical for passage through Congress NOT to antagonize the war lobbyists such as the NRA (and gun loving citizens) by stating policies that can be used to defeat this bill.
Why not keep stated policies simple so that we can win the real victory? An Academy of Peace is a huge step forward. Imagine a live-in all expenses paid 4 year college devoted to educating and training a professional force of peace keepers who commit to 6 years of public service. After 10 years, there would be a small but formidable group of professionals serving and training others throughout our nation.
Later, more detailed policies can emerge and be stated publicly that fight for gun control, when there is a realistic chance for winning.
Because you are at the center of this movement, you have the power to SIMPLIFY the initial objectives of this Dept of Peace. Previous bills have all LOST. You know who scares congress into voting no. Please consider your opponents and do not stir them into action by asking for the moon. Start simply, please.
Sincerely, Gene
