Peace is more than the absence of war
Peace is more than the absence of war; it's the presence of peace, a positive state of being that is predicated on brotherhood and justice and love. In its presence, injustice and hatred have little power to grow. That is why knowing the truth of our spiritual oneness and embracing it within our hearts is the ultimate answer to all the problems of the world. At the level of spiritual reality none of us are separate.

We have an opportunity ...
We have an opportunity at this time in history to completely change the course of human culture. That opportunity is not simply an option anymore, it is a gauntlet thrown down by forces of history, before a generation still not yet decided whether money and power or love and brotherhood should form the bases of our civilization. And we will decide, or life will decide for us. The human species will learn to become profoundly compassionate toward itself and toward all life. We will learn it through wisdom, or we will learn it through pain. But we will learn, because it's God's will that we become the people He created us to be.

Many tough thinkers in America today ...
Many tough thinkers in America today lack heart, while too many tender hearts lack mental intellectual acumen. Fuzzy thinking is just one step above not thinking. We must pool our intellectual and emotional strengths to create an elixir of healing for our national distress.

This time, a prophetic calling ...
This time, a prophetic calling is seizing the hearts of a critical mass. It is a voice of group conscience and a redefinition of citizen activism in American democracy.

We are divinely created spiritual beings ...
We are divinely created spiritual beings placed on earth for the purpose of creating the good, the true, and the beautiful. This goal, when embraced by the human heart, is a compelling force that motivates us to higher heights than any contest or economic stimulus could ever come close to matching.

In America today ...
In America today, we have critical problems that will not go away without collective dedication and effort. We must apply ourselves to serious problems with a concentration and a sense of purpose that we do not always summon in more normal times.

We have lost our sense ...
We have lost our sense that political debate is not what was meant to divide us as a nation, but rather to sustain us. We have left behind the delicate balance between the celebration of our diversity and the dedication to our unity, which lies at the heart of the American ideal.

Healing is an emotional detox ...
Healing is an emotional detox, in which disease can't be indefinitely stuffed down, its symptoms merely managed. We must bring our problems to light in order to be rid of them; lack of conscious awareness is the cause of our problems, and conscious awareness is the source of our healing. Therein lies the power of truth: what is honestly looked at, no longer has the same power over us. Whether what is to be healed is a person or a nation, the healing process takes personal courage, and a willingness to face things not always easy to face.

Imagine if every member ...
Imagine if every member of the United Nations kept one delegate permanently stationed there to spend all day silently blessing every other nation of the world. Imagine humanity committed to universal love, meditating on peace, studied and practiced in the cultural, educational, artistic, philosophical, and diplomatic arts of waging peace. Imagine a world in which war no longer exists. That world is just around the corner, as soon as we turn a corner.

In some ways, history is ...
In some ways, history is something to respect. In other ways, it is something best interrupted. As we enter the new millennium, peace will be forged not only by those who study war but also by those who study peace. The peaceful warrior has an expanded not a diminished, skill set. Health is much more than the absence of illness; it is the cultivation of health. And peace is much more that the absence of war; it is the cultivation of peace.

Words spoken in normal speech ...
Words spoken in normal speech do not necessarily carry spiritual power, but words spoken in sacred process, coming out of silence and heart-felt dedication to the common good, carry moral weight and psychological momentum for both the speaker and the listener.

Today, as always ...
Today, as always, any heart or institution that surrenders itself becomes a channel for the vibrations of love still emanating from the mind of God. It is never too late to change our minds, to self-correct, to embrace the notion that all men are brothers, that indeed we are One, that what we do to anyone we are doing to ourselves, and that in time we will come to see this and know this and live this in truth.

The true mother archetype ...
The true mother archetype is not just soft; she is fierce. And this feminine archetype is making a dramatic new appearance in modern consciousness. She opens a psychic curtain to reveal a radically different worldview than our own, where the female is freed from age-old prejudice and expresses her total nature without fear.

Faith, for those of us ...
Faith, for those of us who embrace it, is as real as a car, a house, or a piece of legislation. The power of God in our lives is no less real than technology, business, or sports. The fact that the action of faith is invisible to the physical eye does not make it a mere function of our imagination or a metaphor or psychological child's play.

Our right to dream ...
Our right to dream whatever life we wish for ourselves, and our responsibility to respect the dreams of others, is the fulcrum of the American ideal. Even in the most oppressive societies, some people have the right to dream. What makes a free society different is that we are all supposed to have that right, and a reasonable opportunity to make our dreams come true.

All of us are better off ...
All of us are better off when contemplation of holy principles is at the center of our lives. But it is in actually applying those principles that we forge the marriage between heaven and earth, while merely dwelling on principle falls short of the human effort needed to carry out God's will.

its violence and pain,
and bless the century now upon us.

Dear God,
This Season, may I be reborn
washed clean
made new
forgiven
spectacularly loved.
Remind me who I am.
Forgive me for my shadow sides,
please heal my broken wings
that I might fly with You.
Amen

Having a relationship with God ...
Having a relationship with God is in many ways like having a relationship with anyone else. In order for it to blossom, we must make time for it and tend to it with genuine attention. Observing the Sabbath is like having a steady date with God, setting aside time in our calendar of days to dedicate our connection with Him.

By surrendering to God's will ...
By surrendering to God's will, we receive so very much more than we would ever get by allowing jealousy to guide our thoughts and behavior. From acceptance and surrender at last there comes an awe-filled grace. And with grace comes the opening of our eyes.

Today, we know there ...
Today, we know there is love in our hearts, but we have only begun to scratch the surface of how we can use it to restore and transform our world. It is the task of our generation to turn love into a social force. The most significant development of the twenty-first century will be the harnessing of the social potential of love.

Every situation is ultimately ...
Every situation is ultimately a lesson in forgiveness. Forgiveness is our decision to see the love that is real in all of us, despite whatever appearances to the contrary there are. Fear melts away when we refuse to affirm its ultimate reality. We see beyond fear, it dissolves. I no longer blame you because I don't believe the part of you that acted out is who you really are. I relate instead to your innocence, to the angel within you, which remains, no matter what you do. That is the power of forgiveness: to call forth a higher reality by acknowledging a higher reality.

Ministry is not just for ...
Ministry is not just for ministers: In the new spirituality, a minister is anyone who chooses to use our resources to tend to the wounded heart of the world. Anything we do can be a ministry, from menial labor to the highest professional endeavor. It is our ministry if it is an activity we use to spread peace and forgiveness and love.

The world will change ...
The world will change when we change. We are living at a time when our technological power has so vastly outdistanced our spiritual progress that we are threatened by the prospect of global catastrophe. And yet there is within us the knowledge -- etched on every human heart -- that indeed there is a power beyond the mortal mind, which can do for us what we cannot do for ourselves.

Our Founders were children of the Age of Enlightenment ...
Our Founders were children of the Age of Enlightenment, believing in the ultimate goodness of man and endeavoring to bring forth on earth a system that attested to and gave power to that faith. For us to find our inherent goodness, and express it, is our highest calling. A transcendent politics recognizes the inherent goodness of the average citizen as the crown jewel of American democracy.

Human power is the power of will, a power that can be either constructive or destructive. Divine power is the power of love. The spiritual and psychological evolution of the species is the march toward their union, or a consciousness of Will-to-Love.

The American dream ...
The American dream, when best understood, is not a material thing. Rather, it is the fact that we have the right to dream at all. It is the right to expect that our talents and abilities and diligence --not the prejudices of others -- will determine the nature of the lives we live.

The surrender of human consciousness to its own divine element is our greatest tool for change. It is more powerful than bullets and more effective than any army. Sacred power is the greatest power in the universe.
