We come together ...
Dear God,
We come together,
different perspectives,
different politics,
different cultures,
to ask that you heal our country.
We surrender to you
the thoughts and attitudes we now hold,
and empty our minds that they might
be filled by You.
Show us to each other,
as You would have us see each other.
Show us the world,
as You would have us see the world.
Guide our listening,
as You would have us hear each other.
Teach us, and inspire us.
Use us on Your behalf.
Amen

I surrender to you all ...
Dear God,
I surrender to you all my thoughts about money, I surrender to you my debts, I surrender to you my wealth. Open my mind to receive abundantly. Channel your abundance through me in a way that serves the world.
Amen

The elements of higher truth ...
The elements of higher truth and commitment to justice that so imbued our founding were slowly forced into exile in the corners of the American mind. They remained in our documents but no longer in our hearts. The very tyrannies from which we had fought to be free now reappeared among us, but this time we were the oppressors as well as the oppressed.

Politics should include more ...
Politics should include more than just changes in government, it should also include changes in us. We are what America is. There are internal as well as external aspects to a nation, and to the process of social change.

Transcendent philosophical traditions reveal ...
Transcendent philosophical traditions reveal that true power is sourced within, is ever-renewable through the grace of God, and is activated through human dedication to whole-centered rather than self-centered goals.

Our gifts from God ...
Our gifts from God can be ignored but they can never be destroyed. In all of us there is divine potential and natural propensity to reach for it. It is not our political rights but our God-given gifts that are the promise of deliverance from the problems of the world.

The experience of deep listening ...
The experience of deep listening to others, in charity and humility, is part of what makes the public realm a potential reflection of the sacred. Anything that serves our coming together as brothers and sisters serves the will of God. And that is the opportunity afforded us by freedom: to say what we think with depth and clarity, to listen to the thoughts of others with humility and open-mindedness, and to bring together our diversity of viewpoints in such a way as to increase the common good.

It is up to each of us ...
It is up to each of us to make a stand for things that will change society. Each of us has a potential for genius, for each of us is a child of God. Our genius lies sleeping in most of us because it is not yet compelled to come forth. Greatness unfolds in response to great challenge.

Fear unchecked grows ...
Fear unchecked grows exponentially. Love poured forth has the power to remove it. Thus is the power of God in our lives. If A Return to Love makes one iota of difference in anyone's ability to experience that power, then I am exceedingly glad I wrote it. I wish you miracles. I wish you love.

We have made up a God ...
We have made up a God in our image. But God remains who He is and always has been: the energy, the thought of unconditional love. He cannot think with anger or judgment; He is mercy and compassion and total acceptance. The problem is that we have forgotten this, and so we have forgotten who we ourselves are.

As perfect love ...
As perfect love, God corrects all mistakes the moment they occur. He couldn't force us back to love, because love doesn't force. It does, however, create alternatives. The Holy Spirit is God's alternative to fear.

The Holy Spirit is ...
The Holy Spirit is a force in our minds that knows us in our perfectly loving, natural state -- which we've forgotten-but enters into the world of fear and illusion with us, and uses our experiences here to remind us who we are. He does this by showing us the possibility of a loving purpose in everything we think and do.

Jesus lived within ..
Jesus lived within this world of fear, and perceived only love. Every action, every word, every thought was guided by the Holy Spirit instead of the ego. He was a thoroughly purified being. To think about him is to think about, and so call forth, the perfect love inside ourselves.

Faith is an aspect of consciousness. We either have faith in fear or we have faith in love, faith in the power of the world or faith in the power of God.

"God" means love ...
"God" means love, and "will" means thought. God's will, then, is loving thought. If God is the source of all good, then love within us is the source of all good. When we love, we are automatically placing ourselves within an attitudinal and behavioral context that leads to an unfoldment of events at the highest level of good for everyone involved.

Miracle workers learn ...
Miracle workers learn to keep their own counsel. Something that's important to know about spiritual wisdom is that, when spoken at the wrong time, in the wrong place, or to the wrong person, the one who speaks sounds more like a fool than a wise one.

We are created in ...
We are created in God's image, however, and not the other way around. As extensions of God, we are ourselves the spirit of compassion, and in our right minds, we don't seek to judge but to heal. We do this through forgiveness.

Relationships are assignments.
Relationships are assignments. They are part of a vast plan for our enlightenment, the Holy Spirit's blueprint by which each individual soul is led to greater awareness and expanded love. Relationships are the Holy Spirit's laboratories in which He brings together people who have the maximal opportunity for mutual growth. He appraises who can learn most from whom at any given time, and then assigns them to each other. Like a giant computer, He knows exactly what combination of energies, in exactly what context, would do the most to further God's plan for salvation. No meetings are accidental.

People who have ...
People who have the most to teach us are often the ones who reflect back to us the limits to our own capacity to love, those who consciously or unconsciously challenge our fearful positions. They show us our walls.

The purpose of a relationship is not for two incomplete people to become one, but rather for two complete people to join together for the greater glory of God.

If enough Americans would ...
If enough Americans would say, I will no longer watch too much TV; if enough Americans would say, I will read the books I know I should read; if enough Americans would say, I will seek my spiritual nature; if enough Americans would say, I will vote in every election; if enough Americans would say, I will do the things that I know in my heart I should do, and make a passionate stand for the changes that I feel are important -- then America would transform.

Beyond the appearances of history ...
Beyond the appearances of history, there is a great and glorious unfolding plan for the destiny of nations. According to the mystical traditions, God carries this plan within His mind, seeking always, in every way, channels for its furtherance. His plan for the evolution of humanity, and the preparation of teachers to guide it is called within the esoteric traditions the Great Work.

We meet humiliation ...
We meet humiliation in order to grow to the point where our behavior would not lead to humiliation; we meet rejection in order to grow to the point where our behavior would not lead to the pain of rejection; we meet the pangs of deep regret in order to grow to the point where our behavior would not lead to regret. We meet the monsters in order to slay them. The only way to rid ourselves of darkness is by bringing it to light.

Our task then is to harness ...
Our task then is to harness the energies of love -- to actualize its enormous power in practical and meaningful ways. Love too must announce its intentions to the world, with all the passion born of a compassionate heart. We are a species that has everything, yet what we lack is what only we can give: conviction. It is conviction to love that gives birth to miracles.

And if ever there was ...
And if ever there was a time to humble ourselves, atoning for the arrogance of human conceit, it is now. There is a ripple of rising consciousness among the peoples of the earth today, as we consider the possibility that there might be a better way -- a way the mechanical, rationalistic, technological left brain cannot access -- which offers us hope that the mortal mind cannot.

Our choice to stand within ...
Our choice to stand within a field of infinite possibility is our miraculous authority in any situation. Changing our mental perspective is much like changing the lens on a camera. In the Bible it is written, "Be still and know I am." That moment of stillness is when our mental lens has a chance to refocus. And there, in the moment of sacred connection with all; life, we know that only love is real.

As we concentrate on being ...
As we concentrate on being the people that God would have us be, a path of light opens up before us to ease our way. Circumstances begin to fall into more harmonious patterns as we find more harmony within ourselves. We can tell when a situation is in the "flow," when we're no longer paddling upstream, when there is less stress involved in making something happen. The effort to align ourselves with the holy and good is our greatest power to affect external situations.

The level of disaster ...
The level of disaster now occurring throughout the world leaves us looking for answers that ordinary human consciousness cannot provide. A catastrophe can be a wake-up call to the human race; it's only when we have truly awakened to the limits of mortal consciousness that we awaken at long last to the miracles of God.

We transform our work into ...
We transform our work into a sacred experience by transforming our sense of its purpose -- from that of serving our own needs as we define them to that of serving the work of God. This shift in purpose -- from a focus on ourselves to a focus on God's love -- activates a chain of miracles. For anytime we walk into a situation with a higher sense of why we are there, we are bringing down the light.

God always knows what He is doing -- the question is, do we? The mystic, knowing there is nowhere where God is not, has realized His wisdom is unending. There is often hidden power in the times when nothing seems to be happening at all.
