Living Humility

Enough is enough
when more becomes less
at the zenith of sharpness
where further honing of the blade
just creates dullness,

A cup overfilling is spilling,
a dying kitten is screaming,
and death becomes a gentle expression
of loving mercy.

A point of saturation is reached
when more riches just bring insecurity
and honor and pride puff
into a vacuous cloud of vanity,

And it is time to retire
from the treadmill of ego's desires,
allowing the pleasure of being,
rather than trying and doing
for the sake of personal reward,

Accepting the humility of the Tao
as a guide-on
to true contentment.

The Tao is hidden

but always present,
empty but limitless,
unconstrained and immeasurable,
at all times accessible,

The source of all life coalesces
within and around you,
ever inexhaustible
in giving the energy
needed for living.

Spiritual being
twisted in knots
in the world of sharp edges,
relax,

And let the presence of the Tao
elevate you
to an ageless perspective
where concerns, anxieties, and struggles
blend into an eternal mix,

Knowing peace
while observing
the nothing and everything
in the infinity
that's nowhere, but always there.

Living the Tao

Thoughts bending flexible,
allowing for any possibility,
like supple palm trees
bowing in abeyance to forceful winds,
elastically swaying,
shifting from rigidity to fluidity,
while rooted in humility,

Small thinking
anchored in well-being,
a liquid state of mind
detached from outcome,
flowing within a living oneness,
a soft resilient patience,
a natural harmony,
strong and free,

Accomplishing great deeds,
conquering without striving,
like running water eroding rock,

Dying
inside the moment of being alive,
trusting the usefulness of uselessness,

Ending conflict
by showing love,

Curious, rather than afraid,

Finding happiness within
the space of not doing anything,
just the space of being done.

The Sense of Illusion

Caught in a wanderlust in the wilderness,
wondering when truth will rise
to the surface of understanding,
the heat of the day burns away,
back to basics,
naked to the face of the sun,

Beauty contained in wisdom,
intuited,
but still at a distance,
hidden in the mundane,

Inspiration waiting,
waiting,
as life liquidates
into salty drops.

Content just to watch
the desert mirage wave surreality,
lingering in the realm of fantasy,
glimpsing the faint dream
prodding breath to continue
toward the sense of illusion.

Constancy

The ultimate constancy
is the come and go,
the to and fro',
energy's never-ceasing flow
fluxing between life, no life,
life, no life, life, no life…

The natural cyclical harmony
of all material things,
where endings become beginnings
to what is and what is to be,

Peace
is in the impartial perspective,
a noble space,
viewing the ever-changing pageant,
taking comfort
in the ever-present Tao
that dissolves all despair,

Into the air
of understanding,
water to vapor,
to water again,
to vapor to water, to vapor to water,
to vapor…

Living Beyond Form

Imagining forever,
no beginning, no end,
invisible, inaudible, untouchable,

The Tao is, and always,
but able to be
the very understanding
in your life,

An amorphous precept unfolding
of shapeless realms merging
into one immeasurable spirit,
the Alpha and Omega,
the creator and ruler
of all life,

Immersing in inspiration,
invoking a mystical harmony
of magical power,
beyond conflict,

Within an energy
behind matter
and every thought
emerging from, and returning to
a silent world
in a dance
of how things have always been.

Living from the Void

The vital essence
of each musical note of a symphony
is the silence
from whence it comes,

What is
depends
on what is not,

That is
the value of the void,
that inner space
that forms the clay pot,
or the emptiness
that defines the interior of a house,
or the state of non-being
that creates your psychic core,

That Tao part of you
where thoughts emerge,
kind and pure,
activating your unique usefulness,

Allow and let go,
like breathing love
from the placeless place within you,
passionate ideas flowing through your mind,
to the physical world,
outward,
manifesting a sweet resonating harmony.

Point of Diminishing Returns

There comes a point
when no amount
of terror and killing,
kicking in doors,
occupying territory,
and the business of death
will do,

There comes a point
when only compassion
can clear an area
of the scourge of war
and the threat of fear
feeding dysfunctional politics,

There comes a moot point,
call it victory or defeat,
when conflict
just brings diminishing returns
to all combatants,
humanity, and environment,

There comes a point
when God wins
over the destructive exploits
of man,
and the business of life
begins again.

Responding from the Matrix of Oneness

Allow your body to be taken
by the seduction of the real self
to unconditional love,

Become the silent observer,
watch the movie unfold
as directed ego-thoughts melt
on the rebus of the mind's eye,
and fade away,

Disregard attitude, roles, values, beliefs,
be aware of a newfound freedom,
reality doesn't lie,
it arises perfectly in the moment,

No pinched reflexes correct anything,
by reacting from the bondage of righteousness
or to the frenzied seismograph of revenge,

Relax to what is,
then respond
in the clear, high, open, unattached freshness of now,

Become the liberated beloved
speaking from strength,
flexible to the sacred art of letting go.
